Science Investigation

Throughout this academic year, year 8 students engaged themselves in two different hands-on science investigations. The first investigation consisted, in a series of science experiments, involving a mixture of sand, salt, and iron filings. As a result to this, they had to figure out a means to separate such mixture while identifying a way in obtaining each substance separately.

The second science investigation involved a forensic approach, which as a team the students required to identify a potential offender using various samples from the identified crime scene.

In these two science investigations, the students learned how to collaborate with others and such experiments contributed towards on how to keep themselves safe in a lab. Additionally, they gained practical experience utilising various strategies. Including the separating of various materials, selecting, and identifying different fingerprint types, and increased their knowledge that such chemicals can produce various colours when burnt.
