Students’ Mobile Phones in Schools

Dear students and parents/guardians,

Please read the attached circulars from the Directorate for Educational Services, which govern the use of mobile phones in schools. Please bear in mind that our school policy (see below) is fully in line and must be followed, with the exception that unauthorized possession and/or use of mobile phones will result in the device being confiscated for a minimum of 20 school days (SIM may be returned if removed by student). The device will be confiscated after the second instance of unauthorized possession until the end of the school year.

The School Mobile Phone Policy

STUDENTS SHOULD NOT BRING MOBILE PHONES TO SCHOOL

The Senior Management Team is highly aware that sometimes, family circumstances crop up where students need to bring their mobile phone with them to school. This should be the exception and NOT the rule. If such is the case, parents MUST follow a strict code of procedure whereby:

  • At least two days before, parents/guardians writes a note to the Assistant Head of school explaining why their son/daughter had to bring a mobile to school,
  • On the day, student presents parent’s/guardian’s note together with mobile to the Assistant Head of Block BEFORE the first lesson.

IF A PARENT/GUARDIAN AND/OR STUDENT FAILS TO FOLLOW THIS STRICT CODE OF PROCEDURE, MOBILE WILL BE CONFISCATED FOR ONE DAY OR MORE. PARENTS/GUARDIANS WILL THEN BE ASKED TO CALL AT SCHOOL TO PICK IT UP.
