Elastic Car Gran Prix 2026

Our Year 9 VET Engineering students recently showcased their creativity and engineering skills during the Elastic Car Grand Prix, organised by Ing. Maria Calleja.

The project began with students sketching their design ideas on paper, followed by building simple cardboard models to test and refine their concepts. After making improvements, they constructed their final wooden cars using cutting tools and carefully assembled each piece with glue. Once completed, the cars were painted and thoroughly tested to ensure they would perform smoothly on race day. Throughout the process, students had to consider important factors such as design, aerodynamics, and friction.

After several rounds of testing, the much-anticipated race took place in the school yard on Friday 16th May. The event featured four exciting races, with each winner advancing to a thrilling final race to determine the Grand Prix champion. The event truly showcased the students’ hard work, innovation, and teamwork in a lively and engaging atmosphere.

During a special assembly held in the school hall, all participating students were recognised for their dedication, receiving a certificate and a token of appreciation. Special awards were presented to the winner of the Grand Prix race and to the student with the best car design, both receiving a tool kit.

Well done to all students involved and to Ing. Maria Calleja for this excellent initiative!
