Dear Year 7, 8, 9, 10 students and parents/guardians,
As we approach the end of the scholastic year, we want to remind all students about the importance of documenting their non-formal and informal learning experiences. These applications play a crucial role in the SSC&P (Secondary School Leaving Certificate and Profile) certification process.
What are Non-Formal and Informal Learning?
Non-Formal Learning: This refers to any learning that occurs outside the traditional classroom setting. Non-formal learning allows you to acquire valuable skills and knowledge beyond textbooks and exams. School and midday break activities fall under this category.
Informal Learning: Informal learning happens naturally in everyday life. It contributes significantly to personal growth and development. These are the activities or courses that you do after school hours. It can be art, dance, drama, education, music, others, religious organisation, or voluntary organisation. An extensive list has been included in the link below.
Why Fill Out the Applications?
Recognition: By documenting your non-formal and informal learning experiences, you ensure that your efforts are recognised. These activities demonstrate your commitment to continuous learning and skill development.
Level Attainment: The SSC&P certification considers both formal and non-formal/informal learning. Including these experiences can positively impact your overall level attainment.
Holistic Assessment: The applications allow us to assess your holistic development. They provide insights into your interests, passions, and areas where you’ve excelled beyond the classroom.
How to Submit the Applications:
Download the SSC&P Non-Formal and Informal Learning Applications from our school website, or else get a hard copy from your assistant head. Fill in the details accurately, and get the organising teacher’s signature for the non-formal activity (during school hours) or the organisation details, stamp, and MQC registration number from a member of the organisation (after school hours). Hand in the completed applications to your form teacher or assistant head. The school will then input this data into our system. This applies to all year groups.
Deadline to submit the applications is Friday 3rd May 2024.
Remember, your non-formal and informal learning journeys are valuable. Let’s celebrate your achievements beyond textbooks and classrooms! 🌟
If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out to your respective assistant head.
