Students from the year 10 Social Studies option group visited the Consolidated Biscuits Co. Ltd. in relation to the topics of Work and the Four Sectors of the Economy. They were given a detailed guided tour around the various areas of the factory. The person in charge started off by introducing the students to the health and safety regulations of the food manufacturing industry. Then the group was taken round so that they could observe the whole process of manufacture – from the weighing of the raw materials up to the packing of the freshly cooked crackers and biscuits. It was a very interesting experience where the students were given a lot of information, where they could observe how an assembly line works and the use of technology in such an environment, besides sampling some goods straight out of the oven.
