Year 7 – Particle Models of Solids, Liquids and Gases
In the Science topic of Understanding Matter, Year 7 students learnt how particles are arranged in solids, liquids and gases. They built models using pit balls and felt to demonstrate how these tiny particles are arranged. Models are useful tools in learning science because they provide visual representations of abstract concepts.
Year 7 Properties of Matter Experiment
Year 7 students learned about the properties of solids, liquids and gases in a fun experiment, using simple materials found at home. During hands-on activities, students work together and foster teamwork skills. Hands-on learning improves the understanding of complex abstract concepts and also social skills.
Year 8 – Compounds in Science
A compound is a substance made when two or more elements are chemically bonded together. Compounds have very different properties from the elements they are made from. Carbon dioxide, water, rust and salt are four basic compounds which we encounter frequently in our everyday lives. Year 8 Science students learned how these compounds are built from their constituent elements, in an engaging hands-on activity, using toothpicks and gummy bears.
