Science Fieldwork

Year 8 Fieldwork: During the week 18th Nov–22nd Nov, students from 8 Coral, 8 Diamond, 8 Emerald, 8 Garnet, 8 Jade, and 8 Opal went on fieldwork at Buskett and Clapham Junction. They observed different Maltese habitats, such as garigue and woodland. In the garigue, they tried to identify the type of plants present and their distribution. They looked under stones in order to observe the variation of small animals present.

At Buskett, they observed different kinds of trees and their leaves. They did leaf and bark rubbing of the trees. Soil samples were also collected from this area, and the soil’s pH was tested at school using different methods such as pH paper, vinegar, and bicarbonate of soda.

Students observed both beneficial and bad human impacts. They had first-hand experience of the natural environment, and they understood better the importance of the conservation of the natural habitats.

A BIG thank you goes to the Science Department!
