History Lesson: A Norman soldier’s helmet

During the month of December, Year 8 history students had a unique experience during their lessons with Ms. Graziella Busuttil. As part of their study on the Normans, the students wore an exact replica of a Norman soldier’s helmet. This hands-on activity helped exercise the skill of empathy and helped them connect with historical figures by understanding the challenges faced by soldiers in that era.

The exercise provided a clear vision of how Norman soldiers dressed for battle and encouraged reflections on the helmet’s design and effectiveness.

The students enjoyed the experience and actively discussed the helmet’s strengths and limitations in battle. This activity made history come alive and highlighted the role of empathy in understanding the past.
