Year 10 students were divided into pairs to investigate Pi (π) and its relationship with the circumference and diameter of a given circle.
They brought different objects that had a circle, such as tins, cups, paper rolls, and lids. They also brought a piece of string and a ruler to be able to measure as accurately as possible.
The students measured the circumference and the diameter of each circular object using a string and a ruler. They wrote all their measurements on the given worksheet. When they divided the length of the circumference by the length of the diameter of the same circular face, they found that it always resulted in a value of approximately 3. In fact, the value of π is 3.14159…
