Science Experiments

Year 7 Acids and Alkalis

In a series of experiments, Year 7 Science students put into practice the theory they learned in the topic of ‘Acids and Alkalis’. In the first experiment, students used Litmus paper and Universal indicator paper to classify substances as acidic, alkaline or neutral. In the second experiment, students used a homemade indicator, made out of red cabbage, to check the pH of different substances. Finally, in the last experiment, students learned how to use an indicator to follow the reaction between an acid and alkali, known as a neutralization reaction. The red cabbage experiment can be easily done at home. Watch the below video to learn how:

Year 8 Chemical Reactions

In the topic of ‘Elements, Compounds and Mixtures’, Year 8 Science students learned about chemical reactions. In an experiment, students observed the magnificent chemical reaction between Magnesium and Oxygen when burnt over the Bunsen burner.

Year 8 Light

In the topic of ‘Light and Sound’, Year 8 Science students learned about transparent, translucent and opaque objects. In an experiment, the students used a ray box and a black screen to distinguish between transparent, translucent, and opaque objects.
