Putting chemical kinetics to the test!

It’s back to business in the chemistry laboratory! Here, the Year 11 Group B chemistry students applied their knowledge of chemical kinetics into practice by investigating the effect of varying concentrations of a substance (sodium thiosulfate solution) on the reaction rate. The students recorded the time taken for the cross to disappear as soon as the cloudy-yellow product formed per reaction mixture/concentration in the flask. At the same time, their human reaction time was also put to the test!

Throughout this experiment, students also maintained safe laboratory practices and achieved proper experimental skills, scientific writing and record-keeping, graph plotting, as well as the skill of working in a team.
