This term, our Year 7 CCP students explored one of the most important skills in geography: using latitude and longitude to locate places on Earth. ![]()
Students learned that latitude lines run horizontally across the globe and measure how far north or south a location is from the Equator.
Meanwhile, longitude lines run vertically and measure how far east or west a place is from the Prime Meridian. Together, these two sets of lines form a grid system that allows us to pinpoint exact locations anywhere in the world, just like coordinates on a map or a GPS device. ![]()

To make learning even more exciting, the students took part in a lively and interactive activity: a game of Battleship! ![]()
Using latitude and longitude instead of traditional grid numbers, they had to call out precise coordinates to try and โsinkโ their opponentโs ships. This hands on experience helped them practise plotting points, interpreting coordinates, and thinking carefully about the accuracy of their locations.
The room was filled with strategy, teamwork, and plenty of friendly competition: all while strengthening their understanding of global positioning and map reading. ![]()

A big well done to all our Year 7 CCP learners for engaging so enthusiastically and showing fantastic progress in their geographical skills! ![]()
Thanks Ms A Calleja Jones for sharing this!
