In Year 11, students study the behaviour of magnets and electromagnets as part of their physics course. This year, they were given two experiments to explore independently. They had to discover what happens when two magnets that are attracting each other exert a force and how this force changes when they move further apart. Additionally, they investigated the strength of an electromagnet by varying the number of turns of wire around a piece of iron.
In addition to the experiments, we explored various real-world applications of magnets. For instance, we discussed how electric motors rely on electromagnets to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy, powering everything from household appliances to electric vehicles.
Students reflected on their experiences, noting how hands-on experiments helped them better understand the principles of magnetism.
L-istudenti ta’ ħdax-il sena qegħdin jistudjaw dwar il-kalamiti u l-kalamiti li jaħdmu bid-dawl bħala parti mill-kors tal-Fisika tagħhom. Din is-sena, ġew mogħtija żewġ esperimenti biex jesploraw kunċetti differenti. Kellhom jiskopru x’jiġri meta żewġ kalamiti li qed jattiraw lil xulxin jeżerċitaw forza, u kif din il-forza tinbidel meta jmorru ‘l bogħod minn xulxin. Barra minn hekk, investigaw ukoll is-saħħa ta’ kalamita li taħdem bid-dawl billi jbiddlu n-numru ta’ tidwir fil-wajer madwar biċċa ħadida.
Minbarra l-esperimenti, esplorajna diversi applikazzjonijiet reali tal-kalamiti fil-ħajja ta’ kuljum. Per eżempju, iddiskutejna kif il-muturi elettriċi jiddependu fuq dawn il-kalamiti billi jikkonvertu l-enerġija elettrika f’enerġija mekkanika, li tħaddem kollox minn apparati domestiċi għal vetturi elettriċi.
L-istudenti riflettew dwar l-esperjenzi tagħhom u innotaw kif l-esperimenti prattiċi għenuhom jifhmu aħjar il-prinċipji ta’ dawn il-kalamiti.
