General introduction to the subject:

SEC Physical Education incorporates three main components, namely the practical area (30%), the theoretical area (40%), and school-based assessment (30%) . Directly related to the world of sport, it provides students with a detailed technical understanding of various disciplines as well as a thorough understanding of the body’s requirements to perform physical activity.

• Athletics, Swimming, Fitness Testing.

• Rules & Techniques

• Health & Fitness

• Body Systems & Performance

• Sport in Society

Class activities involved:

Various practical sessions based on the disciplines chosen, as well as theoretical sessions to address the respective components On most occasions, a link is established between the work done in the practical sessions and that done in the classroom.

School Based Assessment (SBA):

Different tasks are assigned continuously throughout the year.  Tasks include homework, classwork, online forms, period end-of-top/term tests, presentations in class, practical sessions, kohoot quizzes and more.

Regular practice in the practical areas chosen is highly recommended. Fitness tests are carried out before the students choose the subject to give them an indication of their fitness level and the areas they need to improve.

Assessment given:

Regular tests and examinations, both in the practical and theoretical areas.

Skills acquired while studying the subject:

• Able to prepare well ahead of a performance.

• Knowing how the body works during physical activity.

• Achieving a higher level of performance.

Skills required to study the subject:

• General good disposition towards sport.

• A good standard of English.

• Being willing to work hard outside school hours in the practical disciplines chosen.
